Electronics Infoline: repairing a 26-year-old site without losing its history

Bulan Sarkar started Electronics Infoline in 2000. Over 26 years it piled up more than 12,000 addresses, and many of them had stopped working.

Where it started (29 Sep 2026)

  • Search Console, last 3 months: 37 clicks, 10.3K impressions, average position 29.7.
  • Google had 235 pages indexed and 394 not indexed, 240 of them because the page returned a 404.
  • Some key pages pointed Google at the wrong address (a canonical bug), and links from other sites landed on dead pages.

What we did

  1. Checked all 12,332 old URLs. Each address from 2001 to 2023 now goes in one hop to its current lesson, to a short interim page, or to a clean "gone" (410) answer.
  2. Fixed the canonical tags on 15 pages and removed schema that didn't match the page.
  3. Rebuilt, at their old addresses, the pages other sites still link to, with worked numbers and diagrams.
  4. Added the tools readers kept asking for: 7 calculators, such as resistor colour code, LED resistor and voltage divider, and a parts hub with pinouts taken from datasheets.
  5. Moved analytics so it loads after the first tap. The home page went from 79 to 94 on Lighthouse mobile.

Search clicks are still small. Google is working through the redirects: it lists 137 old addresses as "page with redirect", which is what should happen, and its 404 count (284) is still catching up with old URLs it found before the fix. This is slow work, and we will update the numbers as Google recrawls.

What our own audit found

Our 17 Oct audit found no security headers on the main site and some small, low-contrast links on mobile. Both are on the fix list.

What a client gets from this

If your site is old, the links other people made to it over the years still count. We find them, send each one somewhere useful, and rebuild the pages worth keeping, rather than starting over and throwing that away.
